Welcome to First Grade Purple Pod!

Everyone is having a great start to a new school year.  We are reviewing Alphabet Sounds, Numbers and we have just completed our first reading story Sam, Come Back.  We learned words with short a sounds and the ending sound -ck.  We also talked about characters in a story. 

Monday September 3 is Labor Day and a school holiday.

Shaved Ice is $1.50 and will be next week. A note from P.E. was in your child's folder with the dates for September and October.

Language Arts:
We will read the story Pig in a Wig by Susan Stevens Crummel
Our phonics skill is the short i and final x ending.
We will discuss realism and fantasy.
Our comprehension strategy is summarizing a story.
Ask your child to tell you about the story Pig in a Wig.

Math:
Addition and  Number Concepts
We will use pictures to add and put together numbers to 10.

Social Science:
Balance and Motion- We will observe and investigate motion and objects that spin and roll.
We will explore systems with balance and motion.
